Eager to continue your academic and professional development across the globe? Fellowships offer often-funded experiential learning opportunities such as advanced study, research, internships, service, travel, and more.

Discovering the Right Opportunity

Fellowships are typically competitive, merit-based opportunities for which you must apply. At F&M, we firmly believe that every student should have the opportunity to apply for at least one fellowship. We鈥檒l begin by discussing your interests and goals to help you select the fellowship programs that best align with your envisioned future. We鈥檒l then guide you through the application process, helping you refine your application materials, select the more appropriate sources for recommendation letters, practice your interview, and more to ensure you put forward the best application possible.

Opportunities are open to undergraduates and alumni and can range from short-term summer courses to multi-year graduate programs, and self-directed projects to cohort-driven service opportunities throughout the world. Experiences are often funded. They can take the form of:

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR F&M GRADUATES

The Franklin Fellowship

The Franklin Fellowship is an exclusive opportunity at the University of Pennsylvania鈥檚 Graduate School of Education (GSE) reserved for recent graduates of Franklin & Marshall College interested in long-term teaching in Philadelphia.
 
Students applying for the Urban Teaching Residency M.S.Ed. program at Penn are eligible to apply for the fellowship, which includes a $15,000 scholarship that can be combined other merit or need-based scholarships at Penn鈥檚 GSE.

Chilamo Taylor 鈥24 Forges Unique Path to Japan

How did football and fashion lead Chilamo Taylor 鈥24 to a prestigious postgraduate fellowship in Japan? An exchange student opportunity in high school first piqued Taylor鈥檚 interest in the country, where he hoped to study streetwear in Tokyo. But he left Japan with a desire to learn more about the language and culture. 鈥淎fter I came home from the trip, I knew I wanted to go back,鈥 Taylor said. 鈥淚 immediately began trying to find ways to get back to Japan when I started at F&M.鈥 This summer, Taylor will move to Miyagi for a yearlong Princeton in Asia (PiA) fellowship at Niizawa Brewery to learn all aspects of the sake brewing and production process.

Lisbeth Marquez-Delgado '21, a government and Spanish major, was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) fellowship in Mexico. 鈥淭he Fulbright English Teaching Assistant fellowship is the culmination of my academic, work and volunteer experience, which focuses on my cultural heritage,鈥 Marquez-Delgado said. 鈥淔ulbright has been a transformational experience for me because I get to collaborate with youth while also empowering myself to be proud of my dual identity.鈥

Record 11 Alumni Selected for 2023 Fulbright Awards

Eleven recent graduates of F&M were awarded Fulbright fellowships in 2023, the highest number in F&M history. Among this year's Fulbright recipients is 2022 graduate Siliphone "Anna" Phommachanthone who will travel to her home country of Laos this fall to study developmental progress that directly results from demining efforts.

Senior Fatimata Ly spent six weeks in the nation鈥檚 capital as part of the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program. 鈥淎s an aspiring U.S. foreign service officer, this program offers an excellent opportunity to gain relevant experience and education in the field,鈥 Ly said.

The Fulbright Program

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government鈥檚 flagship international educational exchange program. The program funds American citizens to study, conduct research, or teach English abroad, and is among the largest and most diverse exchange programs in the world.

At F&M, we are proud to be recognized by Fulbright as a top-producing institution. This recognition is given to U.S. colleges and universities that received the highest number of applicants selected for a Fulbright program in a particular year. F&M has received this honor nine times in the past decade: 2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24.
