Degree Partnerships

A degree partnership program allows qualified students to attend both Franklin & Marshall and a participating partner institution, often speeding up the process of securing a master鈥檚 degree or helping you fast-track admission to a professional degree in medicine.

Dual Degree Programs

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering

Recognizing the strong foundation that a liberal arts education provides for the engineering field, four top-ranked engineering institutions partner with F&M to offer students extraordinary opportunities to earn a degree in engineering. By the time you complete the program, you will hold a bachelor of arts degree in the major of your choice from F&M, as well as a bachelor of science degree in an engineering discipline of your choice from one of our four partner institutions:

You have the option of spending three or four years at F&M, during which time you鈥檒l complete all requirements for your chosen major, all F&M general education requirements, and all pre-engineering coursework for your chosen engineering school. You will then transfer to that engineering school for two years to complete the program.

One of our partner schools, Washington University鈥檚 McKelvey School of Engineering, also offers F&M students the option to earn both a bachelor鈥檚 and a master鈥檚 degree in engineering in exchange for spending one additional year in the program.

If you have questions about the dual degree programs, please reach out to Mike Vitlip, director of legal & STEM professions advising, at mike.vitlip@fandm.edu.

Master of Science in Accounting

Through partnerships with Wake Forest University, Vanderbilt University, and New York University, F&M students of any major are eligible to complete both a bachelor's degree at F&M and a master of science (accounting) over the span of five years. After completing four years at F&M, students apply for admission at the respective graduate program, and then complete one full year at that institution. At the end of the five-year experience, students will be eligible to sit for the CPA exam. If you enroll at Wake Forest University or Vanderbilt University, you will receive a minimum of $10,000 / semester tuition scholarship. At the end of the five-year experience, you will be eligible to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.

Master of Forestry (M.F.) or Master of Environmental Management (M.E.M.)

Earn Master of Forestry (M.F.) or Master of Environmental Management (M.E.M.)

In partnership with Duke University, F&M enables you to earn a bachelor鈥檚 degree from F&M and a master鈥檚 degree from Duke in a total of five or six years.

M.E.M. and M.F. Professional Master鈥檚 Degrees

The Duke Professional Master鈥檚 program is a two-year, course-based, non-thesis professional degree program similar to law or business school in its applied focus. In fact, the degree will actually be an M.E.M. (Master of Environmental Management) or M.F. (Master of Forestry), depending on the path you choose. This is not the same as applying to graduate school in the college of arts and sciences, where you might earn a broader, less applied M.S. (master of science) degree in a discipline like zoology or biochemistry.

M.E.M. Specializations

The M.E.M. degree is structured around environment and management concentrations. Students select one from each of the following groups of possibilities, to gain depth of knowledge in a topical area (environment) and to build the skills (management) to put this knowledge into practice:

Environment concentrations:

  • Coastal and marine systems
  • Ecotoxicology and environmental health
  • Energy and environment
  • Terrestrial and freshwater environments

Management concentrations:

  • Business and the environment
  • Environmental analytics and modeling
  • Environmental economics and policy
  • Community engagement and environmental justice

You may spend either three or four years at F&M, during which time you鈥檒l complete all requirements for your chosen major, and all F&M general education requirements. You will then transfer to Duke for two years of additional study.

Please consult this document for more details about this program and instructions for participation. Contact Professor Elizabeth De Santo at edesanto@fandm.edu with any questions related to this program.

Master of Human Resource Management

In partnership with Rutgers University, this program allows F&M graduates with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in business, organizations and society (BOS) or the relevant eligible F&M courses to earn credits toward a master of human resources management (MHRM). Up to five of the Rutgers MHRM鈥檚 16 courses will be waived if students have had similar courses at F&M and earned a B or better in those courses.

Medical School Partnerships

Penn State College of Medicine

Early assurance programs allow you the opportunity to apply to and secure spots in post-graduate programs prior to completing your degree. Through such a program, outstanding F&M students (3.5 minimum GPA) may apply to Penn State College of Medicine in the spring of their sophomore year. If selected, you鈥檒l receive a provisional acceptance. You鈥檒l work closely with Marissa Sheaf, M.S.Ed., director of health professions advising, to prepare your application.

If you have questions about the early assurance program, please reach out to Marissa Sheaf at marissa.sheaf@fandm.edu.

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

F&M has an affiliation agreement in place with Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) for students who are applying after their junior year, senior year, or as alumni. F&M applicants automatically receive an interview if they meet criteria set by PCOM.

If you have questions about the early assurance program, please reach out to Marissa Sheaf at marissa.sheaf@fandm.edu.

Physician Assistant, Penn State College of Medicine

Early assurance programs allow undergraduate students the opportunity to apply to and secure spots in post-graduate programs prior to completing their degree. Through such a program, F&M students may apply to the Physician Assistant Program at Penn State College of Medicine in the fall of their junior year. If accepted, you will attend Penn State College of Medicine shortly after graduation. You鈥檒l work closely with the Director of Health Professions Advising to prepare your application.

If you have questions about the early assurance program, please reach out to Marissa Sheaf at marissa.sheaf@fandm.edu.

Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University

F&M has a cooperative partnership in place with Thomas Jefferson University鈥檚 . PSAP is an admissions and educational program designed to increase the supply and retention of physicians in rural areas and small towns, with a focus on Primary Care doctors for Pennsylvania and Delaware. Priority is given to applicants enrolled in one of the seven colleges and universities that are members of the PSAP Cooperative.

If you have questions about the early assurance program, please reach out to Marissa Sheaf at marissa.sheaf@fandm.edu.

Certificates

Certificates are supplemental educational pathways you can pursue at F&M. Certificates are not tied to your major or minor, but are credentials you can add to your resume to demonstrate a specialized level of training and education in a particular area. There are several certificates available at F&M, each one an incubator of innovation exploring a new field of study that uniquely blends perspectives from multiple disciplines.
